These comments are made for the purpose of discussion and should NOT be used as
recommendations for or against therapies or other treatments. An individual patient is
always advised to consult their own physician.
Question: I have been prescribed triamterene by my gynocologist for premenstrual bloating and breast tenderness. The last few months I have experienced about a ten pound weight gain and the drug does not seem to helping the bloating and the breast tenderness. Can you develop an immunity to the dosage? Does it need to be increased or should I ask my doctor about prescribing another drug?
Answer: There is no "immunity", but it doesn't tend to be a great panacea. Sometimes spirolactone is useful. Some try drugs like Paxil also.
