Question: Could you please tell me what SMZ-TMP is primarily used for and any possible side effects.

Answer: SMZ-TMP is the abbreviation for sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim. This is a combination anti-bioticinoxng two different antibiotics to get better coverage and effectiveness. It is sold under several brand names (Bactrim, Azo Gantanol, Septra) and is available in generic. It will have as side effects the sulfa family as well as trimethoprim. These can be extremely variable and most patients develop side effects to the sulfa part of the drug. It is used to treat many infections from urinary infections to bronchitis.
