General Information
Question: I would like to know what NSAIDS is and what it means. I see it a lot when I check for medication my doctor gives me. I have asthma and have recently broken some small bones in my wrist thank you again for the answers

Answer: NSAIDS stands for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. This is a class of drugs which acts to decrease some of the mediators of inflammation and also decreases pain. The major class side effect is GI. That is, nausea, diarrhea, GI bleeding etc. There are numerous drugs in this class and recently have begun to be sold over the counter. We use them for inflammatory arthritis or any condition requiring an anti-inflammatory as well as pain relief.
