Question: What is Furosemide and what is it used for

Answer: Furosemide (sold as Lasix) is a loop diuretic. This is a drug that causes increased urine flow. It is more powerful than thiazide diuretics and consequently causes more volume to leave the body. As a result, it is used in congestive heart failure and hypertension mainly, although in some other fluid retaining conditions.

Question: my swelling with the idiopathic edema was maintained and kept at a minimum the last couple of years, but is now starting to get out of control again......is there any different medications that could be used for this condition?

Answer: what are you using now? Diuretics are usually the drug of choice, thiazide diuretics first then loop diuretics like lasix.
