Question: during the fifth month of pregnancy with my daughter, born
1/9/72, i started to miscarry. My Physician gave me the
drug DES (I don't know the full name) My daughter is now 27, and had a miscarriage in oct. of 1998. Please give
me some info. on this drug and the affects on my daughter.

Answer: DES is thought to produce reproductive abnormalities in daughters of women who were taking DES during pregnancy. There is also some thought that there may be increased cervical cancer and vaginal carcinoma. There are many national support groups for DES children, I would suggest finding one on the net. Currently the major concerns are clear cell vaginal and cervical adenocarcinoma. However, she needs more frequent pelvic examinations than children not exposed to DES in utero.
