Doctors' Answers to "Frequently Asked Questions" - Anafranil
Answer: Anafranil is a tri-cyclic antidepressant used in obsessive disorders.
This differs markedly from Zoloft or other SRI type antidepressants. Zoloft is used in
obsessive disorders as is Anafranil, but they are adjuncts and will not
"replace" each other, since some respond to one and some to another. Side
effects are somnolence, tremor, headache, insomnia, increased appetite, increased
sweating, dry mouth, fatigue, and flushing. Contraindications are pre-existing mania or
psychosis, or ongoing surgery.
