Question: My 70 year old mother has diabeties since 1984 and was given Rezulin in 1996. As Rezulin is no longer available, what is comparitable to this drug? What can you tell me about Glucopage? She has received alot of mail about this drug but does not understand if this is to replace the Rezulin?? Thank you
Answer: The comparable drugs to Rezulin, as least to the mechanism of action, are Actos and some other drugs that are coming to market. Glucophage is a different class of diabetic medication, very useful, with little hypoglycaemia. Contraindications are liver disease or renal insufficiency(creatine above 1.4).
