Question: I know that some drug companies have a program for low cost medication for people who must take medication on a long term basis but canít really afford it. My 2 children and myself have ADHD and take Dexadrine, any suggestions?

Answer: It can be a very difficult situation when patients and their families are unable to obtain necessary medications for their medical conditions. There are several sources you can investigate for help in getting your prescriptions filled. In several states, there are subsidized programs that can pay all or a partial amount of the medication cost, if you qualify. In addition, Medicare/Medicaid is another option to pursue. Your local hospital or clinic may have a program that can defray some of the costs, if you get your medication through their pharmacy- find out if such a program exists in your area. There are some pharmaceutical companies that will provide medications at reduced costs in certain circumstances. Visit your health care provider and obtain the names of the company or companies that manufacture and sell the medications you need, and contact them directly-they may be able to help you. In addition, your health care provider may be able to assist you in communicating with the companies, as well.
