Question: I am a 28 yr old female w/o health insurance. I have always been extremely healthy. I have a mole that changed 2-3 years ago and has some characteristics(not all)of a melanoma. I feel fine but recently have begun to have swollen, firm, and sometimes tender lymph nodes in the neck, axillary, and groin area. I have an appointment with a dermatologist set up. I want to know if I should wait and secure health insurance first or if I should hurry and go to that appointment.

Answer: The worst that can happen is that you will go broke. If it is a melanoma, it is likely that it would be classified as pre-existing anyway. If you can get insurance without a wait or pre-existance clause go for it. If the melanoma has spread to your nodes a week won't matter.
