Doctors' Answers to "Frequently Asked Questions" - Laparascopic Cholicystectomy
These comments are made for the purpose of discussion and should NOT be used as recommendations for or against therapies or other treatments. An individual patient is always advised to consult their own physician.
Question: Is there any information about an inability to digest carbonated beverages following laparascopic cholicystectomy? Since this surgery in 1/97, I seem to be unable to digest carbonated beverages without cramping & diarrhea. The symptoms do resolve completely if I avoid carbonation. Just curious if this is temporary or permanent I didn't have these symptoms prior to the surgery (but I did have all the classic signs of gall stones).
Answer: Not sure why this should be a problem. The gallbladder is involved in digestion of fatty foods and there is no fat in carbonated beverages. I suspect you need an UGI to check this.
