Answer: A low serum sodium level. Usually the sodium level is between 135-145 and usually hovers pretty closely around 140. Levels below 135 lead to weakness, below 130 to confusion, below 120 to seizures. The severity of the problem depends on the amount of time that the patients has been at the low sodium level and the absolute level as well.
