Doctors' Answers to "Frequently Asked Questions" - Heart Attack

These comments are made for the purpose of discussion and should NOT be used as recommendations for or against therapies or other treatments. An individual patient is always advised to consult their own physician.

Lipitor,Imdur,& Cardura
Question: Please advise me on Lipitor, Imdur, and Cardura to the effect of heart attack patients taking this to help HDL or anything to prevent another attack and the side effect expected.

Answer: Lipitor is the newest HMG CO A Recuctase drug. These are cholesterol lowering agents and other drugs in this class have been shown to reduce heart attacks. Imdur is a long acting nitroglycerin type drug which will have minimal effects on cholesterol. Cardur I suspect is Cardura which has been shown to have a beneficial effect on the ratio of LDL/HDL or bad/good cholesterol. This is not usually the primary reason to take this drug; but, a nice side effect. Occasionally, it is used in patients with extremely low HDL levels.
