Doctors' Answers to "Frequently Asked Questions" - Esophagel Problems
Answer: First ensure there is no acid reflux by taking prilosec/prevacid or otc zantac(or equivalent). Secondly, if this is not helpful, calcium channel blockers are the next avenue. Nitrates will usually help during the episodes to relax the muscle(but will usually cause a headache). Sometimes a nitro patch is useful in preventing these. Imipramine will decrease the stomach acid a little, but there are much better drugs available for this. It will slow gi motility so worth a try if the above doesn't work.
