Herpetic Encephalitis [posted 7/22/98]
Question: I have been diagnosed with herpetic encephalitis. I have headaches all
of the time. My doctor has put me on neurontin starting with 1hs to
12hs. I noticed this morning that my vision is fuzzy, my headache is
worse and I seem to be very agitated. Could you tell me what would
counteract this or if maybe I am having side effects of this medication?
I am also on a long list of other medications because I have
disseminating herpes whitlow.
Answer: Herpetic encephalitis is nearly uniformly fatal, so I doubt that this is the diagnosis. As to the headache and fuzzy feeling, it's hard to tell unless I have more information on the list of drugs.
Question: There is the encephalitis (s/p?) scare going on here in central Fl., and we are to watch going outside at night, etc...chickens have been infected with this disease, so my question is whether it is safe to eat the eggs from a chicken that may have been infected.
Answer: This virus is transmitted only by the mosquito bite.
