Doctors' Answers to "Frequently Asked Questions" - Aneurysm

These comments are made for the purpose of discussion and should NOT be used as recommendations for or against therapies or other treatments. An individual patient is always advised to consult their own physician.

 Aneurysm [posted 11/24/98]
Question: What is it? And what can we do to get rid of it or to help with it? Any recomendations?

Answer: Aneurisms are dilations of the blood vessels. Sort of like a soft spot in a tire that balloons out. As the size increases, the strength of the blood vessels lessens-like a balloon gets thinner with more inflation. The risk of rupture rises rapidly with dilation. They must be surgically repaired once they reach a certain size.
